Just in time for Mother's Day, "Mama" is an ode to Mista Cookie Jar's mom. In a signature Urban Island Folky Rock 'N' Roll fashion, the song also tells the story of how Mista Cookie Jar's parents migrated from the Philippines to America. With dueling classical and 12 string guitars, it's a cultural hodgepodge straight from the heart with Mista Cookie Jar as your emcee, bringing his rasta-spitfire-country-boy soul to each love-filled lyric.
“Mama” is the 8th in a row single-a-month release in anticipation for Mista Cookie Jar & the Chocolate Chips 3rd album (date yet to be determined).
lyrics
Lyrics:
Mama,
Mama,
thank you for
bringing me into this world.
Mama,
Mama,
thank you for
bringing me into this world.
Way before they called me, Cookie Jar.
Before I was alive.
Said, before I was a little spark
in me Papa’s eyes.
Me mama blossomed up,
sampaguita in da Philippines
She met me daddy.
Fell in love and got married.
All the possibilities
when ya want to start a family.
She said, “God has another plan.
Got to leave my motherland.”
She went with Papa
to the land they call America.
Now here I am,
quite the character!
Off the boat, they landed.
Where? It's kinda random.
I was born in Georgia,
grew up in Alabama.
A country boy
with devotion to his family.
That's filipino values
and some southern hospitality.
I’m blown away how they
came across the planet.
When it's night here,
it's daytime there.
Can you imagine?
So on my birthday
and on every single Mama's Day.
I ring my mama up
and tell her, hey!
I say,
Mama,
Mama,
thank you for
bringing me into this world.
Mama,
Mama,
salamat sa buhay na binigay mo sa akin.
Maraming salamat! Salamat po!
They say yo mama's so nice.
Yo mama's so sweet.
They say she got the best Filipino food to eat.
They say yo mama keeps cool
when we're loud and obnoxious.
She understands our process.
And we know who the boss is.
Yo mama!
They say to me yo mama so clean.
They ask me how yo mama
always keeps the house pristine?
They say, yo moms be the one to keep our crew in check.
She got infinite love.
Now that deserves respect.
I tell her,
Mama, you mean the world to me.
You're the foundation.
Many would agree.
You give the light for
the world to grow.
I say, you got that power, Mama,
don't you know?
I say, mama, when I have a wretched day
you know exactly just what to say,
Mama I know you gave your all
when you gave me life.
That's why I sing 8, 9, 10 thousand times, I sing,
Mama,
Mama,
thank you for
bringing me into this world.
Mama,
Mama,
thank you for
bringing me into this world.
Thank you for brining me into this world.
